As I mentioned in a previous post, this past Saturday
was our assistant pastor's wife's baby shower.
Mom and I both were busy preparing things for it.
Mom put together a quilt from pieces that
the baby's great-grandmother cut before she passed away...
I crocheted a baby afghan as well
as some matching crocheted bibs...
I also crocheted a little stuffed duck
(the theme was ducks)...
And mom used it to go on top of the diaper cake she made...
For food we brought foot-shaped sandwiches, onion dip,
cucumber sandwiches, ambrosia salad, & yellow chocolate duckies.
Here is the cake that I made...
I was going to make duckies out of frosting,
but I didn't buy the right frosting (to save money),
so I used duckie candles and cut off the wicks.
Here was the table of delicious foods :-)...
The shower went very well and we had quite a few visitors.
Well, I just thought I'd share.
I hope everyone's weekend went well.

Young Maiden's Daybook - October 26
Today…
October 26, 2009
Outside my window…
Gloomy-ish, rainy autumn day. And the yard needs blowing :-)
I am thinking…
Of all the things I need to do this week!
And of some specific people I'd like to invite
to our fish fry at church this upcoming Sunday.
I am thankful…
That we don't have to doubt or think
that we're saved, but we can KNOW!!
"These things have I written unto you that
believe on the name of the Son of God;
that ye may KNOW that ye have eternal life,
and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."
1 John 5:13
I am wearing...
A blue knit skirt and my collared, blue sweatshirt.
I am reading…
2 Chronicles, Proverbs, Ezekiel, Matthew;
"Do Hard Things" by Alex and Brett Harris
"Choosing Gratitude" by Nancy Leigh DeMoss with Mama ;o)
"Passionate Housewives Desperate For God"
by Jennie Chancey & Stacy McDonald
I am creating…
A 23 inch crocheted doily and some other things
to list at my etsy shop.
Also, I hope to make a fish-shaped cake
for the fish fry at church Sunday.
One of my favorite things…
A nice warm, morning drink :) (coffee or tea)
For education this week…
"homecollege" a.k.a Daughter at Home University =)
preparing to be a Keeper at Home, for the mission field,
and studying in-depth Ecclesiology.
Also getting fluent in Modern Greek.
A keeper at home skill I am using...
Being diligent and doing what needs to get done
even when I don't feel like it.
A spiritual lesson I'm learning...
Renewing my mind and keeping it pure.
What a battleground! I really need to be taking every
thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
A godly character trait I plan to work on…
Being truly content with the situations the Lord has put me in.
S cripture I am memorizing…
I'm going to review some from the past 2-3 years,
and hopefully find some more to add.
I'm praying for…
The Lord's guidance through my life.
Also praying that He sends more missionaries to
the much needed country of Greece.
For the rest of the week…
Getting out today for a nice drive;
a fellowship at church this Saturday; keeping up the house;
working on instrument arrangements;
busy crocheting and hopefully listing
some more things on my etsy site;
responding to some comments and emails;
spend extra time with my wonderful Savior;
and whatever else the Lord sees fit to send my way.
A picture I’d like to share...
I took this going over a small bridge near sundown...
"Unto thee lift I up mine eyes,
O thou that dwellest in the heavens"
Psalms 123:2

A Few Highlights of The Week...
Happy Friday, everyone!
Today's going to be a busy day,
as we prepare for a baby shower tomorrow.
I'm making the cake and plan to share pictures
of it, as well as the gifts I made, on Monday.
Anyway, I just thought I'd pop in and share a few things.
Yesterday had an interesting beginning,
as our dog, Suzie, had a visitor get into the fence.
Somehow he slipped in under our gate
and every time we tried putting him out, he'd come back.
So for the hour we waited for animal control,
they sat at the window whimpering for each other...
It was rather cute.
The kids were saying how now Suzie is "married",
and it is now possible we could have puppies come Christmas.
lol... oops!
Anyway, I enjoyed Wednesday giving Will
his spelling test (while crocheting)...
And here's a couple of things I've made this week...
A baby blanket (at my etsy for $25)
Another tea cozy (at my etsy for $15)
And I made myself a little crochet hook holder...
I was really tired of trying to keep track of all my hooks,
so I made up an easy pattern to keep them together :-)
... I think next time, I'll use a smaller hook and single crochet
instead of half-double to avoid some of them poking out ;)
Well, I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!
I'll see you on Monday!

(This is from a pond in Michigan near my papa's house.
I made the effect of reflecting the words in the water.)

Maintaining Moral Purity...
1 Thessalonians 4:3-7
"For this is the will of God, even your sanctification,
that ye should abstain from fornication:
That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel
in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence,
even as the Gentiles which know not God:
That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter:
because that the Lord is the avenger of all such,
as we also have forewarned you and testified.
For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness."
Most people care about purity in some areas;
they wish for pure water, pure air, etc...
But sadly, our country has forgotten about moral purity.
Statistics show that 9 out of 10 people have pre-marital relations.
Should we just throw in the towel and accept this?
Verse 7, above, says,"For God hath not called us unto uncleannes,
but unto HOLINESS." God wants us to be holy.
Can this really be done? Yes, it really does matter to Him!
We should not imitate, nor should we isolate...
but we really need to insulate! Resolve to stay pure!
The Lord can keep our hearts and minds pure.
Here are a few ways we can insulate our lives...
1. Make A Commitment To God's Way
"Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way?
by taking heed thereto according to thy word."
Psalm 119:9
What should we base our whole lives on?
The Word of God!
We should commit to the standard of His Word alone.
Where we fail to commit, we'll fail in that area.
Even if it doesn't make sense, or isn't popular,
we need to be determined to follow God's standard.
2. Manage Our Minds
"Keep thy heart with all diligence;
for out of it are the issues of life."
Proverbs 4:23
Our desires reflect what is really in our hearts and minds.
Bad and sinful thoughts lead to bad and sinful decisions.
Every temptation starts in the mind.
An 'empty' mind is Satan's playing ground.
We are to be keeping our hearts diligently,
being sure to take every thought captive
to the obedience of Christ!
We all have our own lustful and selfish nature.
We must not follow our lusts and own desires!
"But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away
of his own lust, and enticed." James 1:4
"Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin:
and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."
James 1:15
The whole beginning of wrong actions begins in the mind,
when we dwell on and think about our own lusts and desires.
"Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness,
faith, charity, peace, with them that call
on the Lord out of a pure heart."
2 Timothy 2:22
3. Monitor Our Media Intake
"The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge:
but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness."
Proverbs 15:14
Do we really want to get our philosophy of life from the media?
TV shows, movies, news, magazines, advertisements, etc...
We really need to watch what we allow ourselves to see!
We can't live morally pure by
always feeding on television and the like!
Let us not let the world stick to us.
"I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes:
I hate the work of them that turn aside;
it shall not cleave to me."
Psalm 101:3
4. Minimize The Opportunity For Temptations
"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man:
but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted
above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also
make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."
2 Corinthians 10:12-13
We must be able to realize and pay attention to what tempts us
and we need to be resolved and rely on the Lord to help us say "no".
We must choose our friends wisely.
It is much easier to pull someone down than to raise someone up.
We must establish protective guidelines.
"But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness,
let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting,
which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks."
Ephesians 5:3-4
These things should not be named even once among us!
They should never (including in our thought life) be a part of us.
If we are tempted in certain areas, we need to avoid them.
5. Magnify The Consequence Of Sin
We really need to realize the seriousness of sin.
Just because people's standards have changed,
does NOT mean God's standards have!
He remains the same and so does His hate for sin.
If we mess around with something, it will destroy us.
"Be not deceived; God is not mocked:
for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."
Galatians 6:7
2 Corinthians 10:12-13
We must be able to realize and pay attention to what tempts us
and we need to be resolved and rely on the Lord to help us say "no".
We must choose our friends wisely.
It is much easier to pull someone down than to raise someone up.
We must establish protective guidelines.
"But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness,

The Past Few Weeks... Home, Park, Maxwell Conference, and Fun
WOW! I apologize for hardly posting lately.
I'm sure you can all relate... it's a busy time of year.
I thought I'd catch up and share some pictures (and a video!)
of a few of the many things that have been going on.
A big highlight was, that my sister's 7th birthday was Sunday...
One of her gifts was this dress she picked out fabric for.
She also played "Twinkle Little Star" with 2 others
at a master class a few weeks ago...
I love watching children grow up! It's so bittersweet.
A couple weeks ago, Stephani spent the night
and we decided to do some photography.
That Saturday was "National Speak Like A Pirate Day",
so we decided to let the weirdness come out in us
with makeup, clothes, and the camera :-)
(Stephani)
(Me)
After we took showers, we thought we'd try
making nice lady-like poses...
(Stephani)
(Me)
Last Friday was park day.
Here's a collage mom made...
Top: The kids playing dominoes
Middle: Stephani and I posing for tree pictures
Bottom: Carolynne with a caterpillar she found
Here are the pics Stephani and I got up the tree...
(Stephani)
(Me)
Also, we had some fun with her dog...
:-)
And as I mentioned before, we went to a conference
by the Maxwells this past Monday.
I finished this crochet project on the way there...
:)
I really enjoyed Sarah's young ladies' class as
well as Christopher's evangelism session.
Afterward, they all blessed us with some nice
bluegrass gospel music...
The children and their friends watching...
Here are the Maxwells after they finished...
Afterwards, our family stayed to fellowship
until the church was closing!
I enjoyed getting to know everyone!
(Mom wrote the commentary on the pics)
We didn't get home until about midnight :)
It was a great time of fellowship and fun.
Very encouraging and edifying!
This week, the children have been working on school...
Carolynne's learning to read.
Here she is writing some letters...
Beth working in her Language book...
Will sat reading some books for his History...
Also, Will sat reading some books to the young girls...
And I've been very busy composing arrangements
with all my instruments for my and Stephani's next cd...
(I'm recording each instrument separately
and then putting them together.
We're having piano, acoustic guitar, steel guitar,
banjo, fiddle, and electric bass from the keyboard)
We hope to get our first cd out by the New Year!!

Young Maiden's Daybook - October 5
Today…
October 5, 2009
(Already OCT!!!)
Outside my window…
It's actually pretty cooled,
and it's a gloomyish day with light rain.
I am thinking…
Of the need in Greece... I just read an
email from a missionary contact there.
I am thankful…
That it's getting closer to my favorite season...
WINTER!
I am wearing...
I'm not sure yet.
Probably my khaki skirt and green striped shirt.
I am reading…
2 Chronicles, Psalms, Proverbs, Ezekiel, Matthew;
"A Heart For God" by Dr.Paul Chapel
"Waiting For Her Issac"
"Do Hard Things" by Alex and Brett Harris
I am creating…
A Christmas list of what to do this year.
(I like going all out for the holidays!)
Also more things for my crochet business.
One of my favorite things…
A big cup of tea in the morning!! yum yum!
For education this week…
"homecollege" a.k.a Daughter at Home University =)
preparing to be a Keeper at Home, for the mission field,
and studying Bibliography, Theology, & Christology.
Also getting fluent in Modern Greek.
Also hoping to study more advanced chemistry on the side =)
A keeper at home skill I am using/learning...
Not being excessivly sleepy and getting up to my alarm clock.
(which is difficult with having CFS)
A spiritual lesson I'm learning...
Submission to those in authority...
it does get harder (yet even more essential)
when in the stages of young adulthood!
A godly character trait I plan to work on…
Being truly content with the situations the Lord has put me in.
Scripture I am memorizing…
I'm hoping to start memorizing 1 John 3.
I'm praying for…
The Lord's guidance through my life,
as well as a person I plan to continue witnessing to
and invite to church the next time I see them.
Also praying that He sends more missionaries to
the much needed country of Greece.
For the rest of the week…
Going to a conferece by the Maxwells today,
keeping up the house;
busy crocheting and hopefully listing some things on my etsy site,
getting around to posting,
respond to some comments and emails,
spend extra time with my wonderful Savior,
and whatever else the Lord sees fit to send my way.
A picture I’d like to share...
A couple of crocheted projects I recently finished...
I also made a tea cozy out of the same yarn and color
as the first afghan... I still need to take a picture of it.
Have a great week!
